Alternative Abstract
This thesis would not have been possible without the kind support, the trenchant critiques, the probing questions, and the remarkable patience of my thesis advisor Professor Jeong, Hyoung-Wook. I cannot thank him enough. I also acknowledge the great contributions of the members of the defense committee Professors Yi Ki Ho and II- Joon Chung for inspirational comments and concern. I am grateful to all my Cameroonian mates, Tandia Vernasius, Obase Samuel and his wife Yvonne and Terence for day to day support. I remain indebted to my parents, Mr and Mrs Tagho Martin Ashanga, my younger brother - Ashanga Roger, my dear aunt ? Ndiforchu Christina, my dear uncle- Ndiforchu Jacob and Mr /s Gana Peter, my cousins Susan, Felicita, Albert, Mary and Terence for their constant encouragements and love I have relied throughout my time at Ajou University. I would also like to thank my Cameroonian friends like Nebabi Henrietta, Mr/s Forchingong Charles, Fon Cicil, Evans Muna, Mr. Austin Achunkwe of P and T Buea for their regular communication that inspired me to work harder. Korean friends like Jenny, Jackie, Shawny and wife, Mr. Park, Mrs. Kim, Rachel, Julia and Vincent and staffs of the graduate School of International Studies (GSIS) Ajou University for making my life meaningful in South Korea.
