Alternative Abstract
Petrochemicals play a very important role in the economy. The products of industry are the building blocks of many industries, including polymers, man-made fibers and basic chemicals. The industry uses aromatic derivatives for a wide range of its consumer products. This study therefore examines the reformate feedstock that will be coming from the refinery, to obtain benzene and para-xylene that will be produced in the aromatic’s facility. It provides an illustration of the aromatic’s feedstock process flow from one processing facility, Uganda’s refinery to produce aromatics in another unit, aromatics facility. Besides, it points out the economics to check the profitability that follows such a venture in Uganda, due to the importance of aromatics intermediates in the final stages of manufacturing consumer petrochemical products. The paper also identifies the strength Uganda has in pushing through with the project, as well as future challenges of penetrating into the sector.
