Alternative Abstract
In Myanmar Power System Sector, the ministry of electricity and energy has been planning generation power plants, national grids and substations to meet the growing demand for electricity, to ensure power system stability and to supply power in full capacity. The main objectives of Myanmar electricity sector are to ensure adequate electric power supply, to ensure the reduction loss of electricity and to ensure the qualified electric power distribution to the users systematically and continuously. The Ministry is also endeavoring ways and means to reduce high power losses and upgrading the distribution system. By reducing distribution power losses, various benefits are obtained in the power system. This paper aims to analyze the power flow and capacitor placement of the distribution system for decreasing power loss and to enhance the voltage magnitude. The methodology is the novel analytical method to consider the useful capacitor locations and size in the distribution network by using MATPOWER software. At first, MATPOWER software is used to solve the power flow analysis in the applied distribution network. And then, the loss sensitivity constant (LSC) is determined to find the sufficient capacitor locations and sizes. The proposed method is applied to the actual 30 bus radial distribution network of Mandalay in Myanmar. Moreover, the saved energy is considered in the case study. The simulation results show that the power loss is decreasing by placing the capacitor in the base case as well as the voltage magnitude is increasing. It provides that the result of the upgraded distribution network with a useful capacitor can be determined the reducing power loss, improving voltage profile, and saved energy.
