Alternative Abstract
ABSTRACT For the past decades, the Government of Cameroon has attempted to improve socio-economic development such as infrastructures, health care, education, potable water and agricultural development, in other to boost the well-being and economic welfare of its growing population. In other to achieve this difficult task, the Government as the major stakeholder has to implore the assistance of non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) in the form of civil society organizations and community-based organizations and multilateral corporations. This study explores the collaboration of Government and the civil society as an NGO through development agencies, to implement a participatory development to achieve its goals. The community-based organizations as civil society and NGO play a vital role in assisting the Government to implement a participatory model of development. This reduces the bureaucracy involved in state operations. This thesis attempt to show how the various stakeholders involved in fostering participatory development liaises together to improve the needy and disadvantaged regions in Cameroon. It will as well examine the strategies used in mobilizing and implementing this model of development. The challenges faced by the implementation of this collaboration are also going to be analyzed. The intention of this model of development is to provide the basic needs to the disadvantaged thereby reducing poverty by improving the socio-economic conditions in these areas.
