Alternative Abstract
Export has been a driver of economic growth. Despite various legal and regulatory provisions, institutional reform, bilateral and multilateral trade agreements in the direction of strengthening Nepal’s international trade, Nepal has not been able to reap its benefits up to the mark. There are several bottlenecks of export sector development of Nepal. After recognizing the important role that export plays in advancing the economic growth and development, economic policy makers of Nepal deem export as a main tool of overall socio-economic reform. This research has attempted to analyze the impact of export on economic growth with special case study of Nepal by using annual time series data from 1968 to 2015. The results of the study clearly show from the cointegration and VECM model that export plays a vital role for the economic growth of Nepal at 5 % level of significance in long run and short run. To achieve the higher economic growth through export, this research work offers policy implications for the government and other stakeholders to promote export through policy reform, competitiveness, quality control, transparent and favorable business environment.
